As the name suggests, Au-Giesing is located between the historic districts of Au and Giesing, both of which are located on the eastern bank of the Isar. Mariahilfkirche, a beautiful neo-Gothic building, is a major attraction and also marks the historic center of the quarter. Moving from there towards the river Isar, you will reach the Frühlingsanlagen, a picturesque recreation area on the banks of the Isar. There you can find, among other things, the Schyrenbad, a public outdoor pool with ample sunbathing areas that attracts many visitors in the summer. Right next to it lie larger sports facilities as well as walking- and biking trails along the Isar that are perfect for going on walks or jogging. Moving east from Mariahilfplatz, you will reach the heart of the quarter and the Nockherberg. This is where every spring the Paulaner brewery serves as the venue for the "Starkbieranstich", an event that is surpassed in popularity only by the Oktoberfest. The main U-Bahn station for this quarter is Kolumbusplatz: The lines U1 and U2 provide a fast and easy connection to the city center and Munich's outskirts.
