The municipality of Karlsfeld was established more recently through the cultivation of the formerly inhospitable moss grounds. At some older parts of the district there were different Schwaigen (cattle farms), especially the Rothschwaige is remarkable for its history which dates back to the Middle Ages. Nowadays Karlsfeld is an important city in the county of Dachau. It has approx. 22,000 residents and is spread on an area of approx. 16 km².

The bus stop for busses in all directions is in approx. 5 minute walking distance, near the town hall. From here it takes 10 minutes to the train station in Karlsfeld.
