Away from the historic village center, Forstenried's image is dominated in the northern part by larger housing estates. In the 1960s, when living space in Munich became scarce, large housing estates were built in Forstenried - similar to those in neighboring Fürstenried - to alleviate the housing situation in the Bavarian capital.
