The name of this district can be traced back to a former hunting area of the lords of Schleißheim Castle, which was very rich in wild birds. The Lerchenau Lake itself is an ideal recreational area for walks and excursions. Those who like it a little more active will find a wide range of sports on offer at the Lerchenau district sports facility.

Lerchenau is very well connected to public transport: both the U3 Oberwiesenfeld station and the Munich-Fasanerie S-Bahn station are within easy walking distance.
After the two world wars, this area experienced a great influx of people. Therefore, at the end of the 1960s a large housing estate with multi-story apartment buildings was built at Lerchenauer See, which today also houses some beautiful apartments for rent. Beautiful objects for temporary rental are also available in Feldmoching, Hasenbergl and Am Hart.
