Grünwald is located approx. 12 km south of Munich (Zentrum) and is picturesquely situated between the Perlach and Grünwald Forests. Grünwald is located directly on the eastern bank of the Isar and is largely spared from traffic and noise due to its position on the outskirts of Munich. Historic buildings such as Grünwald Castle and the old Isar bridge, together with the beautiful recreational areas on the high banks of the Isar, round off the district's image. The Bavaria Film Studios, Europe's largest film city in Geiselgasteig, are a tourist magnet.
Development and transport links
Since the opening of the streetcar line to the farming village of Grünwald in 1910, the population has grown steadily and the area has developed into Munich's most exclusive villa suburb and even one of the most upmarket residential areas in Germany. As a result, it is not uncommon to live near celebrities in Grünwald. Grünwald owes this status above all to its quiet location and picturesque surroundings. As a result, real estate in Grünwald is in high demand. Despite its quiet location and distance from the city center, the district is very well connected to the city center and the wider area: the Höllriegeskreuth S-Bahn station on the western bank of the Isar is just a few minutes' walk away and provides quick and easy access to local public transport.
