Garching
Garching is located directly on the northern outskirts of Munich and is therefore one of the surrounding areas that are particularly closely intertwined with the city. Officially, the town describes its location between Munich city center and Munich Airport; at the same time, the A9 motorway, proximity to the Munich-North freeway junction and connections via St 2350, B471 and B13 ensure excellent regional integration. This is a clear advantage for prospective residents: Garching is close to the city, but not just a suburb, but an urban node of its own in the north.
Ismaning, Oberschleißheim, Eching, Unterschleißheim and the northern Munich area are particularly relevant for orientation. Strategically, this fits very well because Garching is located exactly at the interface between Munich North, the science campus and the classic surrounding residential area.
Garching is more diverse in terms of residential structure than the research location might suggest at first glance. The town itself boasts around 18,000 inhabitants, a rich childcare landscape, excellent schools, many leisure, sports, gastronomy and shopping facilities as well as over 80 clubs and institutions. Garching boasts a good infrastructure on the outskirts of the city, a high quality of living and an attractive pedestrian zone.
This is decisive for the residential perspective: Garching is not just a work or university address, but a place where everyday life can be well organized. Garching is particularly interesting for those who want to be close to the city without the density of the city center.
The location is particularly attractive for commuters to Munich, for people with a connection to TUM, research institutes or companies in the north, for families who want a good infrastructure and for temporary living if a functional, high-quality and well-connected location is required. This is an editorial deduction from the U6 connection, research location, childcare, schools and leisure structure.

Lake Garching is one of the city's most important recreational anchors. In addition, the city refers to Mühlenpark, Isarauen, Fröttmaning Heide, Mallertshofer Holz with heaths as well as Garching Heide and Echinger Lohe. The current mobility concept explicitly emphasizes that Garching Lake and the Isar floodplains can be reached from the local area in five to ten minutes by bike. This is a strong argument for prospective residents: nature is not far away here, but close to everyday life.
Garching is clearly relevant to families from a residential perspective. The town emphasizes a rich childcare landscape and excellent schools; the education pages list elementary school, Max-Mannheimer-Mittelschule, Johann-Andreas-Schmeller-Realschule and Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium, among others. There are also municipal crèches, kindergartens and after-school care centers.
The city explicitly describes Garching as "sporty". Outdoor sports areas on Schleißheimer Straße and in the recreation area at Garching Lake form the backbone of the sports facilities; there are also several gymnasiums and sports halls, the triple sports hall in the Business Campus sports park and numerous football pitches and playgrounds in the city area. This is a very resilient everyday argument for families and active households.
