The small town of Riem has gained a lot of residential quality since the airport moved away. The large New Trade Fair City site was built on the old airport site. Since its completion, it has been the venue for numerous national and international trade fairs. The former airport site is therefore now an exemplary model of sustainable urban planning and has become an attractive residential area, especially for families.
An additional plus point is the family center in Riem, which offers a wide range of advice and support services. Although Riem is not located in the immediate vicinity of the city center, it offers easy access to the center thanks to its connection to the U2 underground line (Messestadt Ost station).
The numerous residential units in the south of the exhibition grounds are home to over 10,000 residents from 111 nations, giving Riem, which is otherwise rather close to nature and quiet, a cosmopolitan flair. There are beautiful apartments here and in the surrounding districts of Trudering, Waldtrudering and Denning.
