The heart of Munich is a magnet for tourists and locals alike thanks to its Rathausplatz square with the Glockenspiel, the Residenz, the Frauendom and the Feldherrnhalle, as well as the long, always busy pedestrian zone with the most upmarket shopping mile. The well-known Viktualienmarkt offers a wide selection of local and international specialties. Many well-known Bavarian restaurants and pubs can also be found here. The Hofbräuhaus is particularly popular with tourists. The picture of the district is rounded off by the monumental buildings on Max-Josephs-Platz (above all the Bavarian State Opera and the Residenz) and the picturesque courtyard garden of the Residenz, which directly connects the city center with the southernmost part of the English Garden.

U-Bahn/S-Bahn stations such as U3/U6 Marienplatz, U4/U5 Stachus and Odeonsplatz, as well as the U1/U2/U3/U6 at Sendlinger Tor, offer perfect public transport connections and provide quick and easy access to other parts of the city and the suburbs.
Living in the Zentrum
There are only a few residential buildings, but many elegant offices, doctors' surgeries and stores.
