Maxvorstadt is home to the city's major universities, the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität with its sprawling main building on Ludwigstraße, the Academy of Art just a few meters away and finally the Technical University, in the immediate vicinity of the Pinakotheken. From there, the museum quarter with its world-famous exhibitions stretches out, all just a few minutes' walk from each other.

With its mix of educational and cultural institutions, Maxvorstadt is the intellectual and artistic heart of the city. However, this does not mean that you have to do without the typical Munich coziness. The Löwenbräukeller and the smaller Max Emanuel Brewery invite you to enjoy a typical Bavarian pub experience, while the smaller pubs around Amalienstrasse and Türkenstrasse also attract many students. Those who prefer something a little more chic will also find a number of upmarket cafés and restaurants on Ludwigstrasse itself. Towards the west, the historic backdrop is finally replaced by modern office and apartment buildings.
