Borstei
Borstei is located in the south-eastern part of the Munich district of Moosach. The city of Munich explicitly describes the estate as a listed model estate in the south-eastern corner of the district. At the same time, the location is particularly interesting for everyday life because the Borstei is situated between several very usable urban spaces: Towards the south and southwest, routes open up to Neuhausen-Nymphenburg and Nymphenburg Palace Park, while towards the east and north there are short routes to the Olympic Park and other parts of Moosach.
A major advantage of the location is that the Borstei is comparatively quiet despite its proximity to important traffic routes. The green courtyards, the relatively quiet location and the favorable position between Nymphenburg Palace Park and the Olympic Park are particularly noteworthy. This makes Borstei particularly interesting for people who want to live centrally enough but are looking for a more sheltered and characterful living environment than in many classic inner-city locations.
Borstei also benefits from its location between several very different residential areas. Moosach, Neuhausen-Nymphenburg, Nymphenburg-Gern and the area around the Olympiazentrum are particularly close by. It is precisely this neighborhood that makes the district even more attractive: those who live here benefit not only from the special residential complex itself, but also from short distances to neighboring districts with further shopping, leisure and recreational opportunities.
The Borstei is no ordinary district, nor is it just any residential ensemble. It was conceived in the 1920s as an independent residential complex for the middle classes and to this day it is precisely this idea, the green courtyards and the closed architectural form that characterize the residential feeling. The Borstei administration describes the complex as a residential ensemble on around 70,000 square meters; the Borstei Museum lists 77 houses, 773 apartments, 7 courtyards, 14 stores and 1 café. As a result, the Borstei still looks like a small neighborhood of its own with many functions on site.
The combination of architecture, art and gardens is particularly characteristic. The official Borstei website expressly emphasizes that only a small part of the area is built on and that the residential complex was deliberately developed around gardens and open spaces. This is precisely what makes Borstei so special from a residential perspective: instead of dense block edges or purely functional settlement logic, the focus here is on inner courtyards, passageways, greenery and design quality.
Typical resident groups in the neighborhood are, for example
This classification results from the quiet inner location, the good infrastructure in the district, the proximity to the subway and streetcar as well as the strong residential and green character of the complex.

In the Borstei itself and in the immediate vicinity there are shopping facilities for daily needs. The existing Mr. Lodge page explicitly mentions stores for daily needs in the immediate vicinity; the official Borstei pages also refer to stores directly in the complex. This is precisely why the residential location remains pleasantly practical in everyday life.
The Borstei is also well integrated in terms of gastronomy - restaurants, cafés and beer gardens in the neighboring areas; a café in the complex itself is part of the neighborhood. As a result, the Borstei remains quiet and residential without appearing isolated.
A major advantage of the Borstei is its location between two important local recreational areas. The existing Mr. Lodge site explicitly mentions the Olympic Park and Nymphenburg Palace Park as nearby destinations. Added to this are the green courtyards inside the complex itself. This means that anyone living in Borstei will find both open spaces close to home and larger parklands within easy reach.
