Lehel
Lehel is located in one of Munich's most distinctive locations. The district is dominated by the Altstadt to the west, the Isar river to the east and the English Garden to the north. Lehel thus combines a classic inner city location with water and greenery in a small area. It is precisely this triad that is decisive for the perception of the district as a residential location.
Lehel should not be viewed in isolation when classifying the neighborhood. The Altstadt and the area around the Residenz and Hofgarten are directly adjacent to the west. There are short distances to the eastern parts of the city via the Isar, while to the north the transition to the English Garden has a strong influence on the residential feeling.
Lehel is a clearly upscale residential neighborhood featuring elegant, historic architecture. The streetscape is defined by stately residential and apartment buildings from the late 19th century , many of which have been renovated and lend the neighborhood a strong architectural presence. In particular, the renovated historic buildings with their Art Nouveau architecture are among the most beautiful residential buildings in Munich and underscore the neighborhood’s exclusive character.
Compared to livelier, trendier neighborhoods like Schwabing or the Glockenbachviertel, Lehel feels quieter, more refined, and subtly urban. The neighborhood is therefore particularly well-suited for people who want to live centrally but aren’t looking for a perpetually noisy nightlife district.
This residential area is of interest, for example, to the following people:
| To the center (Marienplatz) | To the central station | To the airport |
|---|---|---|
| 1,5 km | 3,0 km | 36,6 km |
Lehel offers a high-quality, inner-city shopping environment. The adjacent Maximilianstraße is one of Munich's best-known shopping addresses and is characterized by international fashion and jewelry brands, exclusive boutiques and prestigious shop windows. In addition, smaller stores in the district ensure a well-kept shopping atmosphere close to home.
In terms of gastronomy, Lehel fits in well with its elegant character: stylish cafés, bars and restaurants characterize the district instead of loud nightlife spots. There are many options around Maximilianstraße, St.-Anna-Straße and the paths towards the Altstadt, making it easy to combine everyday life, work and enjoyment
Despite its central location, Lehel offers very good opportunities to relax in the countryside. The English Garden borders directly on the neighborhood and creates space for walks, jogging or short breaks in everyday life. Together with the proximity to the Isar, this creates a residential environment that combines a city center location and access to nature unusually well.
