This part of Maxvorstadt, bordering the city center to the north, is characterized by majestic, neoclassical buildings, especially between Odeonsplatz, Königsplatz, and Ludwigstraße, where the university buildings are located. Its central location near LMU and TU is perfect for students. A blend of upscale and student-friendly vibes gives this district its unique, lively character and makes Maxvorstadt one of the city’s most popular residential neighborhoods. Josephsplatz lies directly on the border between Maxvorstadt and the neighboring Schwabing district and is dominated by the magnificent Baroque Josephskirche.
Infrastructure
In contrast to the otherwise very densely built-up Maxvorstadt, however, a spacious plaza was left open in front of the church, featuring the Franziskusbrunnen fountain and a small children’s playground. The residential area offers many beautiful properties and benefits from its central location: in the immediate vicinity, you’ll find all the shops you need for daily necessities and many restaurants. In addition, the nearby Maßmannpark provides a lovely, if small, green space right on your doorstep. The equally nearby Nordbad offers more space for physical activity. Although parking in Maxvorstadt is very difficult, residents on Josephsplatz have had the privilege of their own underground parking garage for several years now, which has significantly eased the situation. Josephsplatz itself is located right next to the U2 subway station of the same name, which provides a quick and easy connection to the city center.
