Alte Heide
Schwabing, with its beautiful turn of the century buildings and less attractive post-war buildings in between, used to be the bohemian side of town. Since the university is located here, this neighborhood is very popular among students. It's also a very prestigious address for lawyers, insurance companies, and physicians.
Location and buildings
The former artists' quarter of Schwabing with its beautiful old buildings, among which there are also some post-war buildings, is particularly popular with students due to its proximity to the university. Many lawyers, insurance companies and doctors have a prestigious address here.
The Alte Heide estate was completed in 1928 and is laid out as a garden residential park. Most of the buildings were constructed in the historicist style of the turn of the century and in Art Nouveau. A special feature of the estate is the orientation of the buildings: by aligning them at right angles to the access roads, a uniform orientation towards the sun is achieved, thus avoiding the disadvantages of block development. This makes Alte Heide in Schwabing a very attractive residential area. There are also many green spaces and parking areas between the houses. The residential character also means that most stores for daily needs are in the immediate vicinity. The English Garden is also not far from Alte Heide. Münchner Freiheit, a center of social life and nightlife in the city, can also be reached on foot.
In general, however, Alte Heide offers a fairly quiet residential area, despite its proximity to the city center and good connections to Munich's outlying districts. The U6 subway station, Alte Heide, connects the estate with the city center and the suburbs, both of which can be reached within a few minutes.
